Jeremy Irons is a classically trained actor who delivered great performances in movies like Reversal of Fortune, Dead Ringers and M. Butterfly. And who could forget Scar from The Lion King? Sadly, like Sean Connery, he has a sad weakness for crappy sword and sorcery flicks. As of the 2000s he seems to have been typecast as the wise old mentor in ridiculously bad films like Dungeons and Dragons and Eragon, the latter of which had the distinction of being even worse than the novel it was based on (which was written by a 15-year-old-boy!). He also played a Morlock monster in the laughable Guy Pierce remake of The Time Machine. Maybe it’s all the Shakespearean training which somehow makes him comfortable with this stuff…
