Michael Caine |
Despite his inability to speak in anything other than a Cockney twang, Michael Caine landed a ton of classic roles in the ’60s and ’70s. He was brilliant as a hardboiled London gangster (Get Carter), a cunning master spy (The Ipcress File) and a charming and amoral seducer (Alfie). However, by the ’80s the once-iconic actor had gotten stuck in a succession of dud roles, the worst of which was probably the infamous 1987 shark sequel Jaws: the Revenge (which featured the physical impossibility of a roaring shark!). By the ’90s he was reduced to appearing as the bad guy in the Steven Seagal-directed On Deadly Ground (we’ll say no more) — and this was one of his more memorable performances that decade. Caine has finally managed to claw his way into a career revival in more recent years with The Quiet American and the Batman franchise, and is now doing mostly good stuff again. We’re glad to have the “geezer” back…
