Gabby Douglas Grabs Gold “All-Around” Olympic Champion |
The 17-year old Virginia Beach native, snagged the Olympic All-Around Championship today, takng her second gold medal at the London Games. Gabby was n the lead of the All-Around from the beginning and barley edged out Russia’s Viktoria Komova, with 62.232 over Komova’s 61.973. “I wanted to seize the moment,” Douglas said. “It hasn’t sunk in yet. Team finals hasn’t sunk in yet. But it will.”
It was also an incredibly close battle for the bronze which head American Captian, Aly Raisman and Russia’s Aliya Mustafina, ended after the four rotations in a dead-even tie, 59.566. The tie bredker, dropping the lowest scores for both gymnasts and totaling the remaining three. That gave Mustafina a total of 45.933 and Raisman 45.366. “It’s really disappointing, but I’m really happy for Gabby,” said Raisman, captain of the U.S. team. “But it’s definitely really frustrating because we tied for third place. I was so close.”
