Rani Mukerji Does Lavani Item Song for 'Aiyya'

Rani Mukerji features in a Lavani item song in her upcoming film Aiyaa, emulating Vidya Balan in Farrari Ki Sawari and Katrina Kaif in Agneepath.
The song has been choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant.
There is a small difference in Mukerji's lavani performance, and we will let you decide if it's significant - Rani cavorts to the drum beats in a dream sequence!
"Rani does three item numbers in her dream in Aiyya. In this film, the girl has this habit of dreaming. One of her item numbers is a lavani song, again in her dream," Sachin Kundalkar, director of the film, tells IANS. "She was quite good with her lavani dance. She shared a great equation with Vaibhavi Merchant. She did rehearsals on the sets. So it's a rapid, classical, sensuous lavani song," he added.
Lavani is traditional folk dance popular in the states of Maharashtra, southern Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Performed to the beats of dholak, Lavani is known for its powerful rhythm and erotic sentiment. The female performers wear a nine-yard long fisher women style sari and blouse.
Aiyya marks the Bollywood debut of National Award-winning Marathi director Sachin Kundalkar.
The film is a quirky love story between a Maharashtrian girl and a Tamil painter. The girl finds the painter sexy because he smells good!
Malayalam actor Prithviraj plays the Tamil painter in his debut Bollywood flick.
Produced by Anurag Kashyap, the film went through its final edit on Sunday, July 15, 2012.
