Akshay Kumar, Bhansali Coming Back Together With Remake of Tamil Film Ramana |
Fresh off the mega box-office success of Rowdy Rathore, Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have decided to team up again for another South remake - A. R. Murugadoss' Tamil action film, Ramana (2002).
Rowdy Rathore was a remake of the Telugu hit Vikramarkudu (2006) and it went on to make Rs100 crore plus on the box-office. Bhansali had shared his excitement over the film's success by saying, "I'm overwhelmed with the congratulatory wishes and love audiences are bestowing on the film...It feels great to be part of this out and out action entertainer."
Akshay, who returned to action with this film after a gap of seven years, and the producer are confident to pull off another South remake equally well.
"Both (Akshay and Sanjay) had a great time working on Rowdy Rathore. Sanjay is confident that Akshay can carry off this role perfectly, given his image as a rugged action hero," a source from the project told HT.
There were reports earlier that the Hindi remake of Ramana will feature Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles and Murugadoss was to helm the Hindi remake as well.
The film has been already remade in Telugu as Tagore with Chiranjeevi in the lead and then in Kannada as "Vishnu Sena" with Vishnuvardhan in the lead role.
It is a story of a college professor's fight against corruption in the construction business after he loses his wife and daughter in a roof collapse. The film is hero centric and does not have a lengthy role for the female lead. Bhansali has not yet made his call on the rest of the cast and director.
The movie will likely start after Akshay wraps Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, and Bhansali completes his much anticipated next, Ram Leela.
