23-year-old Parineeti Chopra was chosen over Sonam Kapoor in the Karan Johar production to be helmed by Punit Malhotra, rumored beau of Sonam.
Punit was always known to have retained his I Hate Luv Storys hero for his sophomore film, but there were high speculations about who will be the female lead.
Sonam's name was doing the rounds, not only because she and Imran headlined Punit's debut film, but also because she has plenty of dates on hand for a new film.
The other name doing the rounds was Anushka Sharma who will be soon seen with Imran Khan in Vishal Bhardwaj's Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mann Dola.
Parineeti has a three-film-deal with YRF but Karan Johar's closeness to Chopras helped.
A source confirmed to Mumbai Mirror.
"Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar are very close. When Karan wanted to work with Parineeti, he only had to ask."
"Sonam has fewer projects in hand right now. So everybody thought she would be the female lead. When Punit decided on Parineeti, it came as a surprise," said the source.
The film is a love story, and the role reportedly fits Parineeti's onscreen brash, outspoken image depicted in her previous films Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl and Ishaqzaade.
Just goes to prove, you never know what will happen in B-town until it happens.
