Kareena Kapoor Explains Why She Has Walked Away From So Many Films Recently |
Kareena Kapoor has confounded the industry by walking out of plum projects unceremoniously after committing to them, which include Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again, Ekta-Johar co-production opposite Emraan Hashmi, Chennai Express and Bhansali's Ram Leela.
Kareena likes it to be known to one and all that she was the first choice for the films she had and does not like to be written as being replaced. She emphasizes the reason she walks out of a project is because she is highly ambitious and career oriented, trashing reports of her upcoming October wedding to Saif Ali Khan being the reason for not doing those films.
"I am extremely ambitious and very career-oriented and my personal life has never come in the way of of my career. My not doing this film has nothing to do with my wedding. Everyone knows Saif and me have been together in a relationship for the last five years and such stories about me being replaced because I am getting married are floated by PR machineries on an overdrive! So people, just back off and let me focus on my work!" Kareena told TOI.
Kareena had said yes to Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express but the project has now gone to Deepika Padukone, 26.
She was first to say yes to Ekta Kapoor and Karan Johar's debut joint venture opposite Emraan Hashmi, but the film is now assigned to Deepika.
Kareena had earlier walked out of Ekta Kapoor's Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, which now stars Sonakshi. There were recent reports that Ekta Kapoor's famous recent phone status message - the bitchfest equation 'Damaged Psycho + Dumb Bimbo = Heroine' - was directed at Kareena.
The most recent blow is to Bhansali's Ram Leela. For each of the projects Kareena has publicly shared her excitement, specially so for Ram Leela as she had always wanted to work with Bhansali.
A source close to the star tells Mumbai Mirror:
"She wants to straddle both the boats – personal and professional. She likes to say 'yes' to a project and then bides her time, to see how it shapes up. If it is not to her liking, she eventually turns it down. This way she can also give priority to her personal life and the long-due wedding."
"This way, say industry insiders, the actress ensures that whoever steps in after her, is branded the 'second choice.' "
With any luck, Kareena's personal life will be more consistent than her choice of films. :)
