Travis Barker Still Trying to Cope With Aerophobia after Plane Crash
The memorable 2008 plane crash took the lives of 4 passengers and left 2 survivors – but the fortunate Travis Barker and DJ AM didn’t actually come out unscathed. Barker, drummer with the Blink 182 band, still feels the weight of the experience on his mind, no matter how hard he tries to be rid of it.He recounts the aftereffects of the crash and the way they shape his life for the Red Bulletin August issue. RadarOnline offers a preview of the story of the trauma which extends to Barker’s band participation and even to his children who caught the phobia.
Since 2008 the plane-scared drummer has been exclusively traveling across the ocean on liners, but it doesn’t go along well with his band commitments. “It’s hard to say what the band potential is,” admits Barker.
He hopes to finally surmount the fear of flying, but for now he just can’t brace himself to fly again. His idea is to use Australia for an attempt and rely on Qantas with its low fatality statistics.
Besides, he has his family to think about – with his children scared to fly, the musician wants to watch him overcome his phobia and board a plane again. “I could simply say I’m not going to fly for the rest of my life. I’m not going to,” Barker assures.
DJ AM fared even worse, as RadarOnline already informed. Goldstein, singer Mandy Moore’s ex, developed survivor’s guilt (which he confessed to his friend in an email) which he was unable to live down. He had to take medicine for post traumatic stress, went on to drug abuse and died within a year from drug overdose.
