It looks like the inside scoop surrounding Sofia Vergara’s weekend engagement in Mexico is becoming about as entertaining as a Modern Family storyline. While the blogosphere was ablaze on Tuesday night with dish that the Latin lusty had accepted a marriage proposal from her longtime beau — Florida businessman Nick Loeb — it turns out the diamond sparkler Vergara has been sporting isn’t an engagement ring after all.

“Sources in Mexico shared exclusive details with Extra, saying that Nick popped the question, but she did not accept his proposal. He asked her to wear the ring and she didn’t want to embarrass him. Loeb supposedly asked for her hand in marriage while the pair visited the Mayan archeological ruins of Chichen Itza with an entire birthday entourage. She was in town celebrating her 40th (July 10).”

The engagement goss took flight after one of Sofia’s close friends posted a photo of the actress wearing what looks to be a very large engagement sparkler on her ring finger. Vergara’s former Fuera de Serie co-star, Fernando Fiore, tweeted the pic of them at dinner where the star wined and dined with 90 guests to celebrate her big 4-0.
A Mexico-based rep for Sofia tells People en Espanol:

“As of today, Sofia is not engaged.”

The Columbian stunner has yet to respond to the wedding buzz on Twitter.
