Taylor Swift, Conor Kennedy Romance: Ethel Kennedy Clarifies

Ethel Kennedy, the wife of late U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, has clarified that it wasn't her matchmaking that kindled the spark between Taylor Swift and her grandson Conor Kennedy. However, the Kennedy family would welcome Swift's possible addition into its fold.

"We should be so lucky," Ethel said at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, August 1.

As to reports by that she had played a matchmaker, Ethel said that was not true, but perhaps her daughter Rory Kennedy, the youngest of her eleven children, was responsible.

"Rory went to a concert with her two little girls [ Georgia, 10, and Bridget, 8]; that's what started it all," Ethel said.

Rory then added, "That's how we first met Taylor Swift and she's a great friend of all of ours,. We love her."

Rory, a documentary filmmaker and producer, directed "Ethel," a documentary on the life of her 83-year-old mother that will debut on HBO on October 18.

ABC had earlier reported that Ethel is a big fan of Swift and had invited the Country singer to walk the red carpet with her at January' Sundance Film Festival premiere of "Ethel," and then set her up with Conor at the family's July 4 fete, where Swift was spotted with another Kennedy in the compound, Patrick Schwarzenegger, sparking mistaken reports of a romance between the two.

Swift on her part is an unabashed fan of the Kennedy's.

In an interview for Vogue magazine's February issue she said, "The only time in my life I have ever been star-struck was meeting Caroline and Ethel Kennedy.

"I got to spend the afternoon with Ethel a couple of weeks ago," she added. "She is one of my favorites because you look back at the pictures of her and Bobby, and they always look like they are having the most fun out of everybody. You know, eleven kids, all these exotic animals on their property."

Swift, 22, and Conor, 18, spent the weekend together at the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., where Conor was photographed walking with his arm protectively wrapped Taylor.

A witness told the New York Post that the rumored couple kissed, held hands and got extremely "touchy-feely" during their time together.

She and Conor attended a house party down the road that night, during which they slipped out for a walk on the beach. Later, they had pizza at a restaurant with other friends.

On Saturday, they went out sailing and spent some time with Ethel Kennedy. Sunday they attended church together.
