| Katrina Kaif Playing Indian Princess |
Ketan Mehta, tha man known to shoot impeccable biographies on Sardar Patel and Mangal Pandey is ready with yet another powerful one titled Noor, for which he has zeroed in on Katrina Kaif to play the legend Noor Inayat Khan.
"Noor was an Indian Princess who became a British spy during world war 2. This will be an Indo-British-French production," Mehta told Mid-Day.
A source has confirmed to Mid-Day that Katrina will play Noor in the film.
Noor, born in 1914, was the daughter of a great-grandson of Tipu Sultan. She never lived in India. In 1940 she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), and as an Aircraftwoman 2nd Class, she was trained as a wireless operator. She became the first female radio operator to be sent into occupied France to aid the French Resistance. She was taken prisoner by the Germans and shot to death on September 11, 1944 at age 30.
After his commercial movie Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005) headlining Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji, Mehta chose to make a film on the 19th century painter, Raja Ravi Varma's life. The film received rave reviews after it was screened at 2008 The Times BFI London Film Festival. But the film is yet to see the light of day.
Mehta is now going to release it as a sole distributor.
With Ek Tha Tiger, Dhoom 3, Yash Chopra's Next and now Mehta's latest, Katrina's definitely giving other actresses a run for their money!
