The great stage actor Ben Kingsley is now mainly known amongst young people for appearing in The Love Guru, Thunderbirds, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Lucky Number Slevin. Now there’s a depressing thought. Whilst he’s never stopped getting decent roles — he was good in Scorcese’s recent Shutter Island, for example, and of course there was that role in British crime classic Sexy Beast — Kingsley has also done enough dreck in the last few years to earn himself a trophy cabinet’s worth of Razzies. When asked why he appeared in the worst movie he’s made yet, 2005’s terrible vampire B-movie BloodRayne, Kingsley said: “To be honest, I have always wanted to play a vampire, with the teeth and the long black cape. Let’s say that my motives were somewhat immature for doing it.” I suppose even great actors have to have fun…
